- As part of the changes to the proposal development process, the Commission has introduced a 'Do no significant harm' (DNSH) principle with respect to climate objectives.
- Stemming from the various policy activities in support of the European Green Deal, the principle demands that research and innovation activities should not make a significant harm to any of the following six environmental objectives detailed under the EU Taxonomy Regulation:
- Climate change mitigation;
- Climate change adaptation;
- Sustainable use & protection of water & marine resources;
- Transition to a circular economy;
- Protection and restoration of biodiversity & ecosystems; and
- Pollution prevention and control
- The DNSH principle needs to be taken into consideration in the scientific methodology and impact of the project.
- Compliance is not mandatory, unless explicitly stated in the call/topic text and forms part of the formal evaluation but applicants are advised to consider the impact of their project in these areas and provide mitigation where possible.
